WebSep 8, 2009 · All the seals except for the input shaft seal are just pull out/drive in seals. If it is the upper leaking you just need an upper unit seal kit. Check the oil to see if its low. Drain some and look for signs of water (white runners in the oil or milkshake). That hole is there to drain the water from around the drive after you pull out.

This is common an outboard won't burn all the oil is ingests. The milky oil in the lower unit is water intrusion. Change it out and put some new gaskets behind those fill and drain screws.
